There has been some speculation that there are Dragons in Destiny. Having lived through the constant speculation of the Megalodon and Dinosaurs in BF4, I tend to be a bit of a sceptic. However, since my first Grimoire Breakdown the other day of the Hunter, I have run across the Ghost Fragment: Warlock card and it confirms the past existence of Dragons. You can read the entire Grimoire if you have collected, today we will just analyze the important part of the Grimoire Card.
The following comes directly from the Grimoire Card: Ghost Fragment Warlock
I had a broken vertebrae in my pocket that I’d borrowed from – yes, borrowed, I was going to put it back – what do you think you are, my conscience? It was a fossil, that means mineral replacement, a rock, basically. They can survive a few hours in my pocket. Do shut up.
The Cryptarchs weren’t going to miss it. Everyone knows the Ahamkaras were hunted to extinction. There’s nothing to be afraid of anymore.
Think of how mysterious this system is, I said. How much life sprang up when the Traveler came. Like the Ahamkara. Do you know the legends? The dragon that made promises? And I pulled out the fossil with a flourish –
She pulled out her knife and started to pick the dirt from her nails. That set me off.
You could never have brought down one of these, I said. Ever. Not the greatest Hunter, not the brawniest Titan.
Her eyes narrowed. She said, Oh? Is that so? And I saw right then that she wasn’t going to pass on the challenge.
I’ve murdered a Guardian, I thought. She’s going to die. It’ll be my fault.
And I looked at the piece of spine in my hand and wondered – why did I say that? What moved me to such pride?
So what do we know?
The Cryptarch seems to have been amassing a huge collection of ancient fragments. I assume once an Engram is decoded they would be housed in some sort of museum. If you have ever gone on a Patrole, you might have received a mission from the Cryptarcs requesting you to scan some ancient technology or collect some House Banners lying around. It seems that this museum which may become available in the Tower contains the fossilized remains of Dragons. We can assume from this Grimoire Card the Warlocks, those you have study the Magic of Traveler, must have access to this area where the Cryptarcs store Engrams. At this point in the game there has been no sign of Dragons or anything Dragon like except for the above screen from a Destiny Trailer and this skull, which comes from the Hangar Bay in the Tower during the Beta.
Destiny Dragon Skull
Is this a skull of an Ahamkara, the Dragons of Destiny?
This image of a skull was first noticed by t0werblade and posted in the Bungie forums. He has speculated that this skull could be the remains of a Dragon, or as they are called on the card, Ahamkaras. Interesting thing, to me at least, is that the word Ahamkaras is a Sanskrit term that is related to the ego and egoism – that is, the identification or attachment of one’s ego, self-esteem or self importance. I find it interesting that Bungie has decided to call the now extinct Dragons, ego. Is this symbolism that the Guardians have no feeling of an individual self because it has been killed just like their former life? Not to mention the strange way that the Warlock talks to himself throughout the text of the card, as if he has two split personalities fighting over what is right or wrong.
What do you Guardians think? Is there Dragons in Destiny? Will be fighting or flying Dragons in the near future?
